We are delighted to announce further promotions in Squircle Capital’s corporate team for Cynthia González and Nicola Kolev.
Cynthia, our Associate Director within the Finance team, has been promoted to Finance Director, where she will oversee all aspects of the group’s financial operations. Since joining Squircle Capital in 2021, Cynthia has managed the full range of financial matters for the firm, including tax filings, cash-flow forecasting, financial modelling and the year-end audit process. Prior to joining Squircle, Cynthia worked at various corporates within the finance, accounting and tax departments and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Nicola has been promoted to Director within the legal department. He joined Squircle Capital’s legal team as an Associate Director in 2019. For the past six years, Nicola has advised the firm on the legal and tax aspects of its transactions – from acquisitions all the way through to the exit process. He also provides support to the fund management side of the business. Prior to this, he worked at Deloitte, where he advised on M&A and banking transactions, as well as corporate restructurings.
These wholly deserved promotions recognise their exceptional contributions to the firm to date, and we look forward to seeing what they accomplish in this next chapter.

We spoke to Nicola and Cynthia about their experience at Squircle Capital to date and their ambitions within the private equity space:
What drew you to your respective fields of work initially?
Nicola: I got into law because I wanted a career where I could dig into real problems and make a tangible impact. A big part of it was family heritage, as well. Back in law school, I was fascinated by how businesses grow, merge, or get reshaped through deals — it’s where law meets corporate strategy. My first job at a law firm exposed me to the nitty-gritty of drafting agreements and navigating regulations, and I was hooked on the mix of detail and big-picture thinking. I also liked the idea of working with driven people — clients, colleagues, counterparts — pushing to get a deal done and was extremely exciting. Private equity was the natural evolution in my career as it’s all of the above plus the added elements of fund structuring and the inherent operational excellence that is expected in investments.
Cynthia: I was always drawn to finance and accounting due to the variety of challenges and the technical depth involved. Early in my career, I worked with clients across diverse industries, from hospitality to construction to retail, which allowed me to build a broad foundation across multiple financial areas.
When the opportunity to join Squircle came up, I didn’t hesitate. What truly attracted me was the challenge and the chance to bring together my expertise in accounting, finance, and tax into a more integrated role, coordinating all aspects at once. Private equity offers exactly that: a highly dynamic environment where different disciplines intersect, and where you are constantly exposed to complex and evolving situations. It was the ideal next step to continue growing both technically and professionally.
What one piece of advice would you offer to those pursuing a career in private equity?
Nicola: Trust and access to the best people seem to drive opportunities more than anything else, especially when it comes to the legal side of things. Build a strong network early and nurture it genuinely—relationships with dealmakers, lawyers, advisors, and other industry players are the most important currency in private equity.
Cynthia: My advice would be to build strong technical foundations not only in financial accounting and reporting, but also in international taxation and the financial aspects of cross-border operations. Private equity often involves complex international transactions where tax and finance intersect, and having a solid technical background allows you to anticipate issues early and ensure accurate and compliant financial management across jurisdictions.
What has been your biggest learning experience since joining Squircle Capital?
Nicola: My biggest learning experience has been in structuring funds in Luxembourg with some of the best lawyers that the fund industry can offer. There is a critical need to align the choice of legal vehicle with the fund’s investment strategy and investor expectations, while ensuring precise drafting of constitutive documents. This makes for a challenging part of the job but is also an opportunity to contribute immensely to the success of our funds.
Cynthia: One of my biggest learning experiences has been coordinating across multiple departments: finance, legal, fund administration and investments, ensuring that all aspects are fully aligned and compliant with the complex international framework we operate within. Working in private equity means dealing with highly detailed analysis, cross-border regulations, and the need to integrate financial, tax, and legal perspectives into every decision. This exposure has allowed me to deepen my understanding of the sector’s intricacies and appreciate the importance of thorough coordination and proactive problem-solving.
